The most famous spa in Montecatini is that of Tettuccio, who's name comes from the presence of the ancient 'tettoia' (or canopy) that formerly covered the spring. Built in the 18th century, during the reign of Pietro Leopoldo, it is characterised by its early 20th century decorations including sculptures, paintings, and ceramic panels as well as its ornate porches, elegant rooms and bright airy corridors.

Many of the spas feature lavish designs. The Leopoldine Terme Spa has an elegant Tavertine stone facade depicting a design of a pair of large wings with a diameter that exceeds 22 metres. The Terme Excelsior, not wishing to be outshone, has high columns and beautiful arches decorated with glazed terracotta medallions featuring historical figures with a link to Montecatini.

Tamerici Terme, located in the middle of parkland, takes its name from the trees that were growing near the source of the spring when it was discovered. The complex included an ancient farmhouse and the buildings have been embellished with elegant architectural elements such as battlements, arches, and mullioned windows, and designs in ceramic and stone. Pride of place in the garden since the twenties is the magnificent Fountain of Naiadi, designed by Mario Rutelli, made of Tavertine stone with bronze figures.

With the healthy attributes of the water, the peaceful setting and the relaxing treatments on offer, Montecatini is an ideal place for enjoying some physical and spiritual rejuvenation.
